sometimes, we can tell our story by writing the stories of those around us from their perspective and allowing their trajectories to lead back to us safe and sound. It has been one of the most popular exercises in my writing classes because people chose to write about those who caused them pain and travel to the center of that volcano is a sight not to be forgotten. Those who cause pain are only regifting theirs, passing it along, and without an understanding of repercussions. Reflection is necessary for wisdom to blossom and those in continual fight or flight never have time to think, ponder, resolve, and stuff like that. You can write your way out of a hole, out of despair or into it to rearrange the events. I think Aristotle said it better. And yes, we will talk about him too.
I will teach two writing classes; one starting June 11th and the other on June 12th.

Your expression, your ideas, your vision but with a little more focus. Nobody likes a blurry photo unless the aim was to do some really abstract piece only a few will understand. However, this is not to say creating work for the few is a bad thing; I do it all the time. If your literary vision is blurry, I can guide you to a blurry place to call your own. If you aim for clarity, singularity of purpose and linear prose, I can take you down that path as well. Click, pay, produce art.

FANBOYS? What the hell are they? You were cutting class that day but it doesn’t matter because it is not never yet and it is never late but you’d better get to it. I will teach a creative writing class on a subject you know well. You will write about you, your people, your city, your country, your borough of origin, and write about your whereabouts on that fateful day when you missed the FANBOYS lesson. Click here, pay me, and I will teach you how to keep the flavor and lose the excess verbiage.

Creative, inventive, luscious and magical is what your writing could be with a little push. With my pushing and your willingness, we might just get this baby out into the world. Write, give and receive critiques, revise, read your work at a public reading to an adoring public.

New York City is a land of cement with the occasional spot of land and dreams. Yeah, we got those. Let yours unfurl, full-steam ahead, marching band in tow, and if you don’t have your own band, remember NYC is the city whose parades never sleep. Borrow a float and a band and call it your own. And when you have time, take a writing class with me. I will teach creative writing classes this summer starting on June 11 for Saturday sessions and June 12th for Sunday sessions. That’s a lot of math and you’re a linguist, not a mathematician. I know.

We know you’re cool. You got passes to go backstage. You knew Mos Def before his name was Mos Def — back when he was Joel Weinberg. You even read Aimé Césaire’s plays before postcolonial literature blew up in the U.S. But, you never learned how to use a semicolon. Don’t worry; I won’t tell. Did you see that? I just used one. You might also want to learn how to write a convincing conversation … with its inherent pauses and rhythm. Click, pay, take my class, emerge a new man or woman or the same as before with better rhythm, syntax, and a complete mastery of punctuation.

False praise may be nice on occasion, especially for things that don’t really matter — like how you look in a dress. Yo, I got one word for you in that white-lycra-even-though-it’s-December-dress … DOPENESS! Ok, fine.
When you write, however, wouldn’t it be nice for someone to offer real praise when due and real criticism when you did not quite manage to do what you intended?
Learn mechanics and subtlety. When to accelerate and when to slow down to a crawl. Learn how to write for words to matter read in front of a crowd and learn to write for words afloat in your readers’ heads.
I will teach a writing class in NYC, mixing traditional and non-traditional methods.
A meeting of writers in which everyone reads their work and everyone says everyone is great and everyone’s work is great is just a support group. A writing workshop in which an instructor trains writers to critique each other’s work is an artists’ support group.
It is time to tell your stories. .. come on, I know you wanna
